“Where do you come from?” A question that, for you as an adoptee, will evoke different connotations. You probably recognize this if you were also relinquished, including disturbing thoughts and complex feelings.
Being relinquished often causes, unconsciously, a continuous pain or burden. The ignorance of a period before your adoption impacts your life and body. Many adoptees experience uncertainty, indefinable feelings, and difficulty with relationships.
An (inner) journey can lead to a transition. Perhaps you don’t want to search for your origins but still face a daily confrontation with your adoption. You may notice issues with people-pleasing behavior and avoidance. How can you find your place in the world, and how can you deal with limiting beliefs and difficult emotions?
In my sessions, we will explore and investigate your identity in Christ, your search, the impact of the loss, loyalty, fear, survival mechanisms, and how to connect to Him and one another. Drawing on both personal experience and professional expertise, I am here to support you in your personal journey.

ONLINE ADOPTEE SUPPORT ABROAD
Since I have noticed that an adoptee therapist is not always available everywhere, I offer online guidance. I primarily work using the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) method. This means that I can support you just as well if you live outside the Netherlands. I currently have clients in Belgium, Germany, England, and even South Korea. Hartini:
Somewhere on the islands of Indonesia, in the land of my ancestors, the story began. Long before there was any question of another life, a first identity was already there: a tribe, a ground, an origin that shaped me before anyone knew me. “Your eyes saw my unformed substance,” the psalmist writes in Psalm 139, “and in Your book were all written the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” Before the first decision about my life was ever made, I was already known.
From children’s home Immanuel “God with us” I was taken in by my Dutch adoptive parents. They had me baptised with my Indonesian name, Hartini, as my baptismal name. Years later, in my twenties, I professed my own faith. It seemed a clear path.
But in the years that followed, I gradually drifted from it, searching for footing and rest along other paths.
God turned out to be like Google Maps: He simply kept recalculating my route.
Years later, back in my birth country, I felt a calling I could no longer ignore. I made the decision and remigrated to Indonesia.
“God predestined us for adoption as His children through Jesus Christ, according to His loving choice.” (Ephesians 1:5) What began as an earthly adoption became, in the end, part of a far greater one.
